LMSC January 2025 Members’ Meeting Recap
Historic Midway Cabin - a topic of enthusiastic discussion at this month’s LMSC Member’s Meeting.
On Monday, January 20th, the Laurel Mountain Ski Club hosted its January 2025 Members’ Meeting in the lodge at Laurel Mountain. The event saw excellent attendance, reflecting the enthusiasm and dedication of our growing membership. It was heartening to see so many members eager to engage in shaping the future of the club.
Meeting Highlights
President’s Welcome and Board Introductions
Club President Zach Simons kicked off the meeting with a warm welcome, sharing the agenda for the evening and introducing the board members in attendance. Two board members were unable to join as they were working Ski Patrol shifts, underscoring their commitment to the mountain in multiple capacities.
Season One Goals:
Re-establish the club – Laying a strong foundation for the club’s long-term success.
Build a Membership Base – Strengthening our community and engaging new members.
Fundraising – Supporting the club’s mission and vision through strategic efforts.
Youth Programs – Launching our first youth programs to engage the next generation of skiers.
Membership Milestone: The club is proud to announce it has reached 81 paid members—a fantastic achievement reflecting the growing interest and support for our mission.
Open Discussion
The meeting then opened for member discussions, yielding fantastic ideas and robust dialogue:
Spring Carnival:
The idea of reviving the beloved Laurel Mountain Spring Carnival was enthusiastically received. Members agreed that this tradition could be a wonderful way to celebrate the season and bring the community together. The Events & Fundraising Committee will take the lead in exploring and planning this event further.
Historic Midway Cabin:
One of the most engaging topics of the evening was the renewed interest in the renovation and restoration of the Historic Midway Cabin.
Tom Anthony shared the cabin's rich history and recounted efforts from 2016-2018 to preserve this important piece of Laurel Mountain’s legacy. The discussion highlighted both the challenges and potential of restoring the cabin in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).
To continue exploring this opportunity, members agreed to establish a Midway Cabin Exploratory Committee. This group will work closely with the DCNR to understand shared goals and evaluate how the cabin might serve as a valuable resource for both the club and the broader community.
